First Steps
When you first think about purchasing a car, take some time to reflect on what you want
out of your vehicle and how you plan to pay for it. Ask yourself the following questions:
- How long do I plan on owning this vehicle?
- How often will I be driving it?
- Will anyone else be using it?
- Do I plan to take my car off-roading?
- How much can I afford to pay?
You'll also want to consider whether you want to buy a new or used vehicle. Many
factors will affect this decision:
- Price. Used cars cost less, but often lenders charge higher interest rates on used car
financing. Also, a new car loses value the minute you drive it out of the showroom.
- Used autos will usually require more maintenance by you and by your mechanic.
- New cars come with warranties, although a used car may still be covered by a warranty. A
warranty can save you from having to pay for certain repairs down the road.
Once you have thought about these issues, you will be ready to begin your research.
