Oil and filters
- Changing the oil is the most important thing you can do to extend the
life of your car's engine. Change the oil filter every 3,000 miles or every six months.
- Air filters only need to be changed every 30,000 miles! Some oil
change shops will try to sell you a new air filter every time you get an oil change.
- To check the oil: make sure the engine is off, the car is parked on
level ground, the engine is warm (not hot), and the dipstick is pushed all the way in.
- It is possible to add too much oil to your engine. Add only a small
amount of oil (less than 1/4 quart at a time), allowing a minute after adding before
re-checking the oil level.
